A story from Between Restless Jews and Weary Arabs
This is France!
The park was almost deserted. Tired, we sat on a bench in front of the lake. The water looked heavy. The little wooden canoes rocked slightly against their moorings.
Noticing that from time to time I turned my eyes all around, Liesel asked:
"What are you looking for?"
"I have the impression that Lucien is on our trail."
"I observed you while going to the cafe. You looked at almost every car. And even when we left the bus, you rushed; you were so eager to enter the park. You are imagining things that do not exist."
"We leave St Jérôme like thieves!"
"This is France! Lucien is my husband. He is not my master!”
But I was a man from the east.
