A story from Between Restless Jews and Weary Arabs

They got the whole country and its fish for free

During my visit to Israel, I ate with the hotel's owner, a Palestinian from East Jerusalem, at a Jewish fishery restaurant on Lake Tiberias. I told him that the St Peter's fish (the name given to the lake fish) tasted good; he remarked, "They got the whole country and its fish for free." As I quirked, he continued: "They took it fully furnished. Land, cars, beds, tables, closets (…), all were stolen.

"The British who offered Palestine to world Jewry got the price from them. What did we get? Nothing! Not only do they obscure their role regarding the tragedy of Palestine and evade the subject, but they also arm and back Israel's expansions while affirming their meaningless support for a Palestinian state whose borders are never defined, perpetuating their duplicitous role. Denunciations and condemnations without consequence are complicity.”
